Description
This book discusses the relationship between compassion and peace with a special emphasis on the role that therapy and education can play in promoting a state of affairs in which, as humanity becomes more compassionate, peace becomes more possible. Learning Compassion marshals depth psychology and Buddhism, primarily, as a means of promoting less aggressive, more productive approaches to tension in human affairs. The goal is not always to eliminate that tension but to transform it into a productive dialectical interaction with a “dialogical partner” (Buber), what Jung called the “transcendent function.”
